The Social Impact Awards (SIA) is an initiative of the DOCC started as an endeavour to recognize the success stories that reflect the interdependencies of business practice and wider societal concerns in a manner that provides mutual benefits. It aims to honour the organizations and individuals who live and work towards vision of transforming communities and society at a large.

The event is organized to facilitate the top social projects in various domains and recognize the best projects/work implemented by the participants with the NGOs in diverse fields, which have substantially impacted the society.

The top 5 nominations for SIA 2015 were:

  1. Aide ET Action Jaipur, Rajasthan
  2. Chaitanya, Pune
  3. Sai Anadha Seva Trust, Warangal
  4. Samarthan, Bhopal
  5. ERA, Himachal Pradesh

DOCC 2

This year, SIA was held on 30th July  in the SPJIMR auditorium. Sponsored by Cummins, the event saw many renowned guests and speakers and an active, enthusiastic audience. The event started with the Dean, Dr. Ranjan Banerjee, who stroke a chord with the audience with his profound words about the importance of social sensitivity. There is an India and a Bharat and SPJIMR aims to train students who will help to bridge this gap. Dr. Nirja Mattoo, Chairperson of DOCC, also extended her warm welcome to the participating teams. She acknowledged the difficulties faced while working for other selflessly and that this was a special day to honour special people doing some very special things. This was followed by an address by Mr. Ashwath Ram, VP of Industrial Engine Business and Tata Cummins Ltd. Who spoke about the synergy between the beliefs and values of Cummins and SPJIMR, two organizations which has always seen society as an important stakeholder. The Chief Guest for the day, Ms. Zarina Screwvala, Founder & Managing Trustee of the Swades Foundation, delivered her immensely inspiring keynote address. She spoke of her early career days and her struggles along the way which ultimately led to the establishment of her NGO, Swades. What started with an ‘impossible’ dream of lifting a million from poverty is today a beautiful reality!

The evening also saw a moving dance performance by the special kids of Aawhan Palak Sangha. Indeed, a day which left us all inspired !
