A Council of Heroes
The DOCC committee at SPJIMR organized ‘Heroes Speak’ on December 26, 2014. The event, themed Women Empowerment’, provided a platform for students to interact with few of the most awe-inspiring figures in this field. The esteemed speakers present were Mr. Jockin Arputham, Ms. Flavia Agnes, Ms. Mita Vashisht, Mr. Arunachalam Muruganatham and Ms. Chetana Gala.
There and back again : SPandan 2014
SPandan is an event that every student who passes out of SPJIMR looks forward to with eager anticipation. SPandan 2014, conducted on the 12th and 13th of December, was bigger and better than ever. The whole atmosphere was lit with joy of reminiscence, old memories and new beginnings.
Das Auto : Volkswagen plant visit
The visit to Volkswagen Plant in MIDC Chakan was arranged by the CEO & Industry Integration Committee 2014. The group of students was accompanied by Mr. Deepesh Singh. The plant visit was scheduled from 2PM-4PM. The scheduled departure from SPJIMR campus was adhered to and the visiting students reached the plant in-time following a sumptuous lunch at a restaurant near the Volkswagen plant.
Tata Motors field visit
The CIIC committee organized a visit to Tata Motors on 11 December. A batch of 27 SPJIMR participants at 6.30 AM left from the campus and reached the Tata Motors Pimpri plant at 9.30 am. They were received by Mr Ram Hudlikar from the Training and Development department who also accompanied and guided us through the rest of the visit. Before starting with the plant tour, the participants were shown a short informative video about Tata Motors.

A thought provoking and knowledge quenching lecture by Mr. Sriram Venkateswaran, Director, Supply chain and Quality Assurance, McDonalds, India, on Linking Supply Chain to Business Strategy was organized by AcadCom 14 in association with AlumCom as a part of VartALaap series.
Celebrating Good Governance
The Birthday of former Prime Minister of our country, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee is celebrated across the country as the “Good Governance Day” each year on the 25th of December. On this occasion, the B-School competitions committee organized a public-speaking competition on the topic “Use of Technology and Innovation in promoting Good Governance”. The contest was held in two phases, Phase 1 was a submission of a write up on the topic in less than 2 pages,and Phase 2 had the qualifiers from phase 1 presenting in front of the jury.
A Guest Lecture by Mr. Rajesh Vig
Generally around 5 PM, classes wear a deserted look. But on the 20th of December, paradoxically, first year PGDM students were buzzing around the venue of the Consulting Committee’s guest lecture. Five minutes past 5 PM, the excited chatter was replaced by rapt attention as the lecture by Mr. Rajesh Vig, an SP Jain alumni and a partner at PwC investment banking division, started.

Sprint is the arguably the biggest sports fest in the b school arena. It is the second best sporting extravaganza in the country and now wishes to bag the top slot. The fest witnesses the fierce competition in athletics, cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, etc. among some of the best B-Schools of the country. For the first time since its inception in 2008, Sprint ‘15 is a theme based event with ‘Unleash the warrior within’ as its theme.
Sustainable growth in a VUCA world
On the 3rd of December, Shri. Ashok Ganapathy, the Regional CEO of Bharti AirTel for the Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat circle and Ms. Shikha Gupta presented a lecture on Sustainable growth in VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex & Ambiguous) times: A telecom perspective.

The Peony Pavilion : A night to remember
The ADMAP committee continuing with its tradition of promoting theatre and off campus events to provide participants with a holistic understanding of management had organized a visit to a Chinese play. The play in question was The Peony Pavilion” a highly acclaimed Chinese play by the Kunqu Opera to Mumbai on Dec 9th Tuesday, at Jamshed Baba Theatre – NCPA 7:00 pm onwards.

SPJIMR Student venture Appknox won the prestigious “Hot100 Technology” Award. Appknox is an automatic testing tool for application developers and enterprises to help them identify and fix security loopholes in their applications.
SPJIMR wins West Zone finals in the 8th Annual CFA Institute Research Challenge
Introduced in 2006, CFA Institute Research Challenge is considered as the ‘Investment Olympics’ for university students, with more than 10,000 students having participated. This year, more than 3,700-plus students from 825-plus universities worldwide will participate in the local rounds of the competition.The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition which provides university students with hands-on mentoring and extensive training in financial analysis.
Team JAVA from PGP-1 selected for the global final round of Global Student Challenge in Netherlands
Team JAVA comprising of Jagga Raju N, Aayush Goyal, Vivek Ostwal Jain and Avishek Kolay from PGP1 made SPJIMR proud by getting selected for the global final round of Global Student Challenge in Netherlands. The participating teams – from colleges like Columbia Business School, ESADE, NUS, IIMs, ISB, etc., competed on an online simulation game called ” The Cool Connection”
SPJIMR Team emerge National Runners-up in Johnson & Johnson Quest
Deepali Sawant, Ritika Shetty and Sanjana MN of Team “Strawberry Blues” (PGP13 – Marketing Batch) secured the National Runners-up position in Johnson & Johnson Quest – 2014 Competition. The SPJIMR team competed with team from other top colleges like IIMA, IIMB, IIMC, XLRI, FMS, etc. As runners-up they also won a prize money of Rs 50,000.

Prof R. Jayaraman and Akhil Mahajan’s paper on ‘The SMAC revolution in new generation call centres’
Prof R. Jayaraman and Akhil Mahajan (PGPM 1013) have written a paper titled “The SMAC revolution in new generation call centres.” Their paper has been being accepted for publication in the MERC Global Journal, an international journal of Management. SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) is the concept that four technologies are currently driving business innovation across sectors.
