Guest Lecture by Sriram Venkateswaran, Director, McDonalds India

A thought provoking and knowledge quenching lecture by Mr. Sriram Venkateswaran, Director, Supply chain and Quality Assurance, McDonalds, India, on Linking Supply Chain to Business Strategy was organized by AcadCom 14 in association with AlumCom as a part of VartALaap series.

Mr. Venkateswaran, being in the industry for the past 21 years and an esteemed alumnus of SPJIMR opened the lecture by explaining the fundamental concepts of supply chain management and business strategy. He then worked his way explaining those concepts in the context of McDonald.

Instead of a regular presentation, the speaker structured and carried on a constructive discussion at a comfortable pace. Quoting his personal experiences wherever applicable while subtly relating appropriate theoretical models, the speaker caught the imagination of the participants alongside generating further curiosity on the subject matter and food for thought.

The discussion grazed as well as took some deep plunges on various ideas related to the title of the guest lecture including but not limited to ethical, environmental, economic, corporate operations, organization communication and culture, leadership, suppliers identification, research and development of various ingredients, farming support, waste management, product life time and life cycle, packaging and  logistics, Inventory management, franchise management, McD’s global and national policies, outlet locations and layouts, pricing, old products sustainability and new product launches and CSR.

After the lecture the esteemed speaker personally interacted with the enthusiastic participants, explaining the nuances of the supply chain management. At the end of the day it was a whole new and worthy experience for the participants and they loved it.
